Frequently Asked Questions!
Release of liability waiver
All guests are required to sign a release of liability waiver at the time of arrival before heading out onto the ice.
Will I be cold?
The short answer is probably sometimes we will be cold but South Park Outfitters provides heated ice fishing shelters to keep you warm and comfortable. However most of our days here are nice and sunny. Being outside on those sunny days and enjoying the views adds to the experience of ice fishing. But if needed, our shelters only take a few minutes to set up. We understand that being too cold can take away from the fun of ice fishing, so if we do not have one set up and you would like one at any time during your trip just let us know!
Am I guaranteed to catch a fish?
We will always do our best to make sure you catch fish. It is very rare we go out and do not catch but sometimes it happens. Some days we catch a lot and some days not so many. This is why it is called “fishing” and not “catching”!
Can I keep my catch?
We encourage catch and release, but at Antero reservoir we do allow you to keep 1 RAINBOW trout per person under 20”. Please bring a bag to take them home in. Any fish over 20 inches, brown trout, cutbow trout, cutthroat trout, and splake will be returned to be caught another day! At Dillon Reservoir we allow guests to keep 1 Rainbow or one kokanee salmon per person. All brown trout and arctic char will be catch and release. Fairplay Beach is strictly catch and release. Williams Fork we allow one lake trout under 18” per person. As a guide service, we could potentially contribute to over harvesting. We want to help make sure we continue to see the size and numbers of fish we do.
What if ice conditions are unsafe the day of our trip?
In the event of unsafe ice conditions we can either reschedule our trip or we will provide a 100% refund. South Park Outfitters guides always carry a throwable floatation device, rescue rope, and first aid kit. We are all first aid certified and take ice safety very serious! We do not go fishing on ice that is considered unsafe.
Can I reschedule or cancel because of extreme weather conditions?
If we are experiencing blizzard conditions with winds exceeding the ratings of our ice fishing shelters we can try to reschedule for the closest available opening and if that does not work we will happily give you a full refund.
What if the weather gets bad in the middle of the trip?
If we have already started fishing and the weather gets so bad we have to stop, you will receive a 50% refund if we have to cancel within the first half of the trip. If we are more than halfway through the trip there is no refund.
How much should I tip?
while tips are not required, they are greatly appreciated by your guide. The typical 15-20% is recommended.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
All of our trips require a 20% deposit to book. The fee is nonrefundable 48 hours or less before the trip.
Are there restrooms within walking distance from the fishing locations?
Yes! Most times we are within a 10 minute walk of restrooms, sometimes up to a 25 minute walk. We always recommend that you use the restroom before we walk out on the ice.
